Building a small scale wind turbine to raise the accessibility to energy to the Casa Congo community in El Astillero.

Casa Congo is a Nicaraguan cooperative community focused on providing sustainable solutions to the Chacocente Wild Refuge. The grid power in the region is not very consistent, so UBC Sustaingineering is working on developing a wind turbine to ensure the complex would be unaffected by energy power fluctuation. In the future, the aim is for those turbines to be sufficient to raise the accessibility to energy for the community.

Sustaingineering Mechanical Team is leading this project. They are currently working with CAD models, BoM and drawings to develop the wind turbine pieces and design. The team also works with simulations and is looking towards developing prototypes as soon as in-person activities can be resumed.
