Education project

The Education Project offers a unique hands-on experience to make sustainability and engineering concepts accessible to kids and teenagers.

The UBC Sustaingineering Education team is currently working on a project that aims to raise awareness of sustainable and engineering topics amongst kids and teenagers. The team members develop education modules, available as videos on YouTube for the general public. Additionally, the team paired up with schools in the Vancouver area, that will receive detailed lesson plans and kits with all materials and instruction to follow up the modules.

The first project is a Solar Toy Car, targeted at grades 6 and 7. Besides building a simple model, students will be presented with basic concepts on mechanics, circuits and sustainability. The format of lesson delivery (online) also allows for reducing teachers' workload, while offering hands-on experience to the kids and teenagers.

You can access the videos for the Solar Car project here. You can also access the gallery here to see the completed models.
